Last Friday, our church had an all-you-can-eat Steak Night at Elder Park's house. It was a time of good food and fellowship as we prayer for one another and got to know some of the new members of our church.
As I was reflecting on the night, I couldn't help but think of the many references in Scripture to the heavenly banquet. God cares deeply about food. The significance of food might be lost to us but this is the way God works. In our fast food culture, it is hard for us to grasp the importance of meals. It is something to just fill our stomachs with. But food is very important to God. Its His way of fellowshipping with us and our way of fellowshipping with God. Jesus was called the Bread of Life and the Word of God is called our daily bread. He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies and has us recline at the table as our Master serves us (Psalm 23 :5; Luke 12:37).
Food was, and always will be an expression of the gospel insofar as we prepare and share meals with one another with this in mind.
With that in mind, we want to say a BIG thank you to Elder Park and his family for treating us to this special dinner. It was truly a reflection of the gospel generosity and hospitality of our God.
